The only word that JW's use more than "soon" is "special". Special meeting, special talk, special speaker, special announcement, blah blah blah.

"Historical" Announcement This Week?
by headisspinning inmy daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?

Jehovah wants everyone to hear the message before the end comes
by Sour Grapes inwhen you ask a jw why hasn't god brought an end to the old system it is because he is being patient and he wants everyone to have the opportunity for everlasting life.
they will say that every year over 200,000 become jw's (most of whom are born ins).
the problem that i have is that every year over 130,000,000 people are born which means that every year he delays in destroying the nations there will be 130,000,000 more people to murder and bury.

That doesn't sound very loving to me. If he waits another 8 years for the great tribulation add another billion people that he has to murder while adding another 1.6 million witnesses who will be on the burial duty.
The Bible says that God is love yet every day he permits over 20,000 people to die of starvation. He has the power to fix that and He doesn't.

Honest Questions About Child Abuse
by Richard Oliver ini have two honest questions for everyone here.
i understand that most here want retribution from the courts against watchtower for child abuse allegations.
but let us take away the instances where someone was accused of child abuse and then later put back into a position of authority, such as an elder or an ms. let us just take the cases where a regular publisher or even an appointed person, with no previous accusation of child abuse has come up against that person.

My beef with the Borg is that assaulting a child is a crime, the elders treat it like a sin. Years ago I sat on several judicial committees where we asked for every little detail when there was fornication. I am ashamed that I was even an elder. How many lives did I screw up while serving as an elder?
Witnesses may brag that we disfellowshipped the pedophile, the problem is that if the authorities were not contacted the pedophile is still on the loose and will in most cases assault another child who is not associated with the JW's. Of course, JW's don't care about "worldly" people because they are doomed to destruction at Armageddon which is just around the corner.

How the Watchtower Could Grow In Numbers
by Sour Grapes inif i were running the watchtower there are things that i would do to increase the numbers and increase donations.
since so many older witnesses are realizing that the false hope they had of not growing old and not having to die is fading away like a frost on a sunny autumn morning, the watchtower needs to shift gears.. as it has been stated on this forum, the emphasis needs to shift from not dying to the glorious hope of the resurrection, the gateway to paradise.
they need to deemphasize armageddon and emphasize "the way of life" that witnesses have.

Maybe I wouldn't go back, but I would feel better about my family who are still in lock step with seven dwarfs at headquarters.

(They can't brag about not having pedophiles)
At first, I would make celebrating birthdays a conscience matter by stating that since we can celebrate the birth of a baby with baby showers some may also want to celebrate the anniversary of the birth.
I would also make Christmas a conscience matter if done in moderation since people today do not associate the original pagan customs of the holiday which have faded away like the pagan origins of wedding rings, wedding dresses, and even the days of the week and months of the year. Promote it as a starting a family tradition making stronger families, which make for stronger congregations.
I would then let the witnesses "count time" for visiting older witnesses in need of help with chores and even encourage them to work in soup kitchens feeding the poor and hungry, just as Jesus did.
Make the midweek meeting one hour in length with the theme of how we can become better people and better serve our neighbors.
Then work in the tithing arrangement for donations.
If they did the above, I would join back up.

I feel really, really sorry for those born into the Jehovah's Witness religion
by jambon1 insome facts that make the difference between you and me:.
1 - as a person raised by non jw family, my parents have never loved me based on conditions set out by a group of old men who they don't even know.
how does it feel to know that you are in the unique situation where your parents brought you into the world and said 'i'll show love to you.

What a great thread!!!! The Witchtower Bable and Trick Society stole my childhood away. Being made fun of by my school mates for going from door to door. The Watchtower took away my Christmas, birthday, and fun vacations which were replaced by going to district conventions sitting in the hot sun for a week. I became a loner and did not go to college because the end was just around the corner. That was in 1965. One hell of a corner!!!

Could this be the reason for one day assemblies
by Sour Grapes inlast saturday i sat through the one day assembly and i waited for the anticipated accounts report.
for one day the costs were $10,000.
even my wife questioned why the costs are so high and why don't they give a break down on the costs?

At least three times it was mentioned that brothers should not be working at jobs that make them miss meetings and that it is better to trust in Jehovah and the generosity of the congregation.
The circus overseer also talked about the need to merge congregations to preserve dedicated funds and what attitude will we have if you are asked to drive further to worship Jehovah?
Oh. the growth of God's organization!

Last Saturday I sat through the one day assembly and I waited for the anticipated accounts report. For one day the costs were $10,000. Even my wife questioned why the costs are so high and why don't they give a break down on the costs? She said that there is another assembly tomorrow and will they have the same costs? Then it hit me. I could tell the friends are thinking about where are there $10,000 in expenses. I remember when we had two-day assemblies the costs were around $12,000. By having one-day assemblies and charging $10,000 each, they pick up an additional $8,000 a weekend or $32,000 per month. A pretty good scam.

Major congregational quake in Southern California
by Hecce inthis notice is not official yet and it should be confidential until released thru the proper channels.
a friend of mine told me about a huge elders meeting in southern california.
the subject was the relocation and dissolution of some congregations; it seems that this is the result of some project that has been going on for some time and is going to be implemented right now.. please let me know if this is happening all over the country?.

My brother told me about two congregations south of him in Youngstown, Ohio being dissolved. The South and Central Congregations are done and the elders are being sprinkled around to other congregations. Oh, the growth taking place. Jah is speeding up the work! The surviving local congregations will see more at the meetings. Proof that the end is near.

May 22 1969 Awake!
by zeb in"if you are a young person you need to face the fact you will never grow old in this system of things.. why not?
because all the evidence in fulfilment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years...as a young person you will never fulfil any career that this system offers".
